Description:
The course is aimed on those who already own a DSLR camera. Build on basic skills or previous experience using a DSLR camera. Take your basic photography skills to the next level. The course is aimed at those have previously done a basic photography course or people returning to photography after some years away from the camera. It is also ideal for new members of a camera club who wish to broaden their knowledge and build their skills. This course is fun and exciting and will include seven evening classes and three field trips. The emphasis will be on getting hand on experience and building skills through weekly photography tasks and field trips.
Course Content.
- Differences between traditional DSLR and Mirrorless Cameras. The pros and cons of each.
- Recap on the principles of composition. Rule of thirds, leading lines, and framing.
- Understanding settings such as shutter speed, aperture, ISO and white balance. Focusing, depth of field and capturing moving subjects.
- Different shooting modes including manual, aperture priority, shutter priority and bulb.
- Different focusing and metering modes.
- Landscape photography. Use of the tripod and various types of filters.
- Portraits and photographing people using artificial light and using natural light. Light. Hard light vs soft light. Direction and quality of light.
- Demonstration of Photoshop or other applications for basic adjustments to images, to include cropping, exposure and resizing. Preparing your images for uploading to social media or printing.
- Three outdoor field trips. Typically a night photography trip, landscape field trip to the sea and a field trip to the woods or mountains. How to plan a field trip.
- Practical task assigned at end of class each week and followed by a critique at the beginning of class the following week.
